Unifying our Purpose

There are many challenging problems that are deserving of our focus and attention. We believe that taking a wider perspective will allow us to connect the dots and align our initiatives to create the most impact. Too often our initiatives are narrow in their scope and isolated from others who may be able to support our goals. Bringing people together will be the foundation for building a more robust infrastructure for creating positive changes in our community. Many of the problems each of us hopes to solve are the same problem, just from a different vantage point.

  • Our education is getting cut and for many, arts and shop classes are no longer available. Much of our learning is centered around standardized testing. College is only getting more expensive year over year and it seems our degrees don’t have as much value as they once did. The workforce is changing rapidly as emergent technologies displace workers and entire professions. How do I make good decisions about what to do in life? How do I make my parents happy while also doing something that feels right for me?

  • Helping my kids navigate in a world that looks different from the one I grew up in is difficult and at times disorienting. How can can I give them guidance and support when I may not understand what life will look like for them when they’re my age? I just want them to be happy and pursue a path that will be fruitful. What can I do to help them with that?

  • More and more I’m just being asked to teach to the latest standardized test. Distance learning has been very hard on my classroom. We’re focused more on graduation requirements than preparing students for life outside of school. What can we do to create opportunities for them outside of school to help them learn what they can’t learn here?

  • Balancing funding for our school and fulfilling ever changing requirements for program compliance and graduation has been difficult. Our voice doesn’t feel heard at the policy level and we’re not sure what we can do to enact larger changes.

  • It’s become increasingly difficult to find people to fill roles in many industries. Graduates are leaving school with little experience or exposure to the industries they studied. Economic instability and restricted access to funding is forcing many businesses to be cautious and make hard choices about scaling their businesses. How do we help more people find careers in our professions so we can thrive and serve our community?

  • There are so many that need help in our community, and they all need such different things. How do we make sure the people who need our services most are able to find them?

  • Distilling the needs of so many people and creating thorough policy and standards is very challenging. How can we communicate more effectively with those we represent to enact helpful change?

A Bigger Net for a Bigger Fish

Solving large and complex problems requires the support and collaboration of many. Addressing these problems holistically helps our community understand the scope of our intention, as well as provide clarity for them in how they can support these initiatives.

Together we will address problems like:

  • Students can’t find fulfilling careers in industries they don’t know exist.

  • Teachers cannot provide career exposure opportunities without industry partners who are willing to host and provide mentorship.

  • Policy writers cannot provide coherent legislation without clear and purposeful feedback from both industry and education.

  • The cost of education will not decrease for as long as we continue telling students it is their only path to success.

  • Businesses will continue to struggle with recruiting if they refuse to modernize their businesses to create environments that are safe, respectful, and inclusive to people of all kinds.

  • Society will continue to stigmatize blue collar individuals for as long as the most professional among us do nothing to broadcast their existence to the world.

  • Students cannot explore their true interests and passions without the support of their parents

Setting our Vision in Motion

Patreon

Patreon will serve as our primary source of funds. Doing so allows us to provide many of our most important resources free to all who need them. It will also allow our reach to expand far beyond the limitations of a single locality. This means we can help even more people, and we have a much large audience available to fund our initiatives.

Our patrons will have access to special content that goes above and beyond and will have direct influence in the direction of the platform we are creating. Building our model in this manner will help us maintain a broad vision for what we intend to achieve and avoid creating another initiative that is hindered by being categorically inaccessible to many of the people it aims to help. Creating content geared for each type of stakeholder will make our initiative visible, approachable, and relevant to a wider audience. Through this effort we will build partnerships, improve communication within our community, and make coordinated efforts on complicated problems in our community.

What is Patreon?
